The DREAMS! Music Micro-Grants Program offers three levels of funding to help artists, music professionals, and music-based businesses create, promote, and grow their careers while contributing to Durham Region's vibrant music economy. 

Funding supports projects such as recordings, music production, marketing, branding, music videos, live performance preparation, professional development, audience development, and other career-building initiatives that strengthen artistic, entrepreneurial, and industry development. 


Who can apply?

Applicants must be:

  • Be at least 16 years of age (apply with a parent or legal guardian if under 18).
  • Live, work, study, operate, or demonstrate significant musical activity within Durham Region.
  • Be an emerging or established artist, band, producer, songwriter, manager, music entrepreneur, or music-based business.
  • Demonstrate active involvement in music creation, performance, production, management, or business development.

Program Guide Summary

Applicants must:

  • Complete and submit the online application, including a detailed project proposal and budget by August 21, 2026.
  • Clearly explain how the requested funding will support their artistic, professional, or business development.
  • Demonstrate that the proposed project aligns with the objectives of the grant program.
  • Complete the funded project within the required program timeline (September 5 to November 15, 2026).
  • Submit a final report upon project completion.

Grant Funding Streams

DREAMS! Creative Spark Grant $500

Objective: To provide the music community with meaningful funds that will help transform creative ideas into tangible artistic projects while encouraging professional growth.

Activities may include:

  • Studio recording time [Demo or single]
  • Mixing and mastering
  • Songwriting collaborations
  • Rehearsal expenses
  • Photography
  • Electronic press kits
  • Promotional materials/items (EPK, merchandise, posters, banners, etc)
  • Graphic design (artwork, website, social media, etc)
  • Distribution and membership fees (Digital platforms, analytical tools, music organizations) 
  • Equipment rentals & purchases
  • Development workshops
  • Live show travel and production

DREAMS! Artistic Growth Grant $1,000

Objective: To help members of the developing music community expand their professional capacity through investments that improve production quality, audience engagement, and career sustainability.

Activities may include:

  • Professional recording projects [EP, album or mastering]
  • Music videos production 
  • Digital marketing campaigns
  • Website development
  • Branding and visual identity
  • Public relations campaign
  • Touring support
  • Showcase performances
  • Merchandise development
  • Professional development training
  • Music business education* 
  • Grant-writing 
  • Entrepreneurship workshops

DREAMS! Career Accelerator Grant $1,500

Objective: To support music professionals who are ready to make significant career advancements through high-impact creative, entrepreneurial, or promotional projects that contribute to the growth of Durham Region's music sector.

Activities may include:

  • Professional recording projects [EP, album or mastering]
  • Professional music videos production and editing
  • Regional or national marketing campaigns
  • Showcase and festival performance
  • Touring support
  • Business expansion initiatives
  • International export preparation
  • Strategic branding
  • Audience development campaigns
  • Professional mentorship
  • Business consulting
  • Career sustainability initiatives

Yes. Bands may apply through one designated representative who will act as the primary contact and funding recipient.

Yes. Eligible music-related businesses and entrepreneurs operating within Durham Region may apply if their project aligns with the objectives of the program.

Yes, provided you meet the eligibility requirements and your proposed project supports your artistic or professional development.

No. Applicants must live, work, study, or operate within Durham Region.

Grant Categories

No. Applicants may submit only one application per intake.

Funding cannot be used for:

  • Personal living expenses
  • Debt repayment
  • Projects already completed
  • Alcohol or entertainment expenses
  • General operating expenses unrelated to the project
  • Purchases that do not directly support the proposed project

Application Process

Complete the online application and submit all required supporting documents before the application deadline.

Applicants will be asked to provide:

  • Artist biography
  • Project description
  • Statement of need
  • Project plan

  • Links to music or portfolio
Yes. Google Forms automatically saves your progress as a draft for up to 30 days. To use this feature, you must be signed into a Google account while filling out the form. You can close the form window and return to the link later using the same Google account to pick up right where you left off.

Assessment

Applications are reviewed by an independent adjudication committee based on:

  • Alignment with program objectives
  • Artistic merit
  • Demonstrated need

  • Budget feasibility
  • Community impact

Applications are assessed by an independent panel of music industry professionals.

Successful applicants will be notified following the completion of the adjudication process by 1 September.

Successful Applicants

Funding will be distributed after recipients have signed a funding agreement and satisfied any required conditions.

Yes. All funded projects must be completed within the required program timeline (5 September - November 15, 2026).

Yes. All recipients must submit a brief final report outlining how the funding was used and the outcomes of the project.

Yes! Recipients will provide receipts or supporting documentation for eligible project expenses.

Minor changes may be permitted with prior written approval from DREAMS! Inc.

General Questions

Yes, provided all funding sources are disclosed in your application and there is no duplication of expenses.

Yes. All application materials are treated as confidential and are reviewed only by authorized program administrators and adjudicators.

At this point, there are no future funding rounds planned.
